Birthdays are BIG deal in the Butterfly Class. We will celebrate every child (if the parent wishes us to do so), even if their birthday falls during the summer.
During birthday celebrations, we all gather together at big tables, roll out colorful table cloths and share compliments with the birthday child. ) "I like it when you play math games with me. I like how you help me spell tricky words."
I request that parents send fruit or muffins for the birthday celebration. I believe that the focus should be on each child, not on the mountain of icing and frosting that they bring in to share with their classmates.
The children usually have lots of questions for the first birthday celebration every year (How come we don't have cupcakes?). However, the birthday celebrations become a revered part of our class culture and the children look forward to these celebrations with glee.
