Feel free to make changes to the homework activities, to meet the needs of your child and your family.
Math homework will be sent home occasionally during the 1st half of the school year. Look for math games to be played at home. Math fact practice homework will be sent home starting in January.
Word Study at
Home
Please complete the following list of Word Study activities
with your child every week. Keep this list in a safe place, as we will
use this throughout the the year.
Please use the blank paper included in your child’s Come and
Go folder every Monday to complete the activities.
Monday
Parent says the word.
Child repeats the word.
The child says each letter or sound as he/she writes it
(looking at the list).
Tuesday
Write three sentences using one Word Study word in each
sentence.
Wednesday
Write three sentences using one Word Study word in each
sentence.
Thursday
Parent reads words and child writes the words.
Friday
Return all written work to Mrs. Weary in the Come and Go
folder.
First Grade Reading Log
We will use this notebook throughout the year as your child’s reading log. Every week, please:
- have your child read to you or read to your child every night for at least 10 minutes.
- list the titles and authors for every book that you read during the week.
- have your child write and draw about one story read during the week. These written entries should be at least two sentences long.
- return the journals to school on Friday in the Come and Go folder.
Here is an example of what a reading log entry might look like:
A Bargain for Frances by Russell Hoban
Curious George by Margaret and HA Rey
Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney
Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss
George and the Newspaper Boats by Margaret and HA Rey
Curious George is a funny monkey. He gets into lots of trouble.
Math Homework
As with all other homework, math homework will be
sent home on the fist day of the week and is due on Friday of each week.
One of our goals in math for first grade is for
students to be able to quickly and accurately solve addition and subtraction
equations to 18.
